The Everything Austen Challenge commenced on 1st July 2009 right up to 1st January 2010. The challenge is posted here thewrittenword.wordpress.com/2009/06/22/introducing-the-everything-austen-challenge-with-prizes/ for more information on how to participate and win some cool prizes. The bottom line is pick out just six Austen-themed things (books, movies, miniseries) you want to finish to complete the challenge! Just to add to the fun of it, Laurel Ann from Austenprose would like to challenge participants for 'Everything Austen Challenge X Two' in which Austen items were increased to 12.

Here's my list for 12 Austen items that I would like to complete:

3. The Darcys & The Bingleys by Marsha Altman - never got chance to finish
4. The Plight of the Darcy Brothers by Marsha Altman - new release next month
5. Colonel Brandon's Diary by Amanda Grange - will be release next week
6. Impulse & Initiative by Abigail Reynolds - good book but did not finish the last time
7, Prada and Prejudice by Mandy Hubbard - fun book
8. Rude Awakenings of a Jane Austen Addict by Laurie Viera Rigler - companion book of 'Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict

Miniseries/DVD
1. Sense & Sensibility (2008)
2. Lost in Austen (2008) - watch it a few days ago
3. Persuasion (2007)
4. Pride & Prejudice (1995)
5. Bride & Prejudice (2005) - watch a part of it last Christmas season

Wish me luck in trying to complete at least 6 things to do for the next 6 months. All the best for all participants.

Step-by-step Guide

The waltz is a soft, gentle and romantic dance in 3/4 time giving it a basic three beat rhythm that is counted 1 2 3. The transference of weight from one foot to another should be slow and controlled giving the waltz its defined personality of glide. Particular attention should be paid to the heel placement in the forward movement.

The Hold

- The gentleman places his right hand just below the lady's left shoulder blade.
- The lady places her left hand on the gentleman's upper arm.
- The gentleman extends his left arm to his left side.
- The lady places her right hand into the gentleman's left hand and the gentleman's fingers curl gently round the hand of the lady.
- The lady should be slightly to the gentleman's right.

Open Hand Hold
(Alternative hold)

- The gentleman offers his hand forwards, palms up and just above waist level.
- The lady places her hands in the gentleman's hands palms down.

Box Waltz

The waltz is synonymous with turning but this basic  Box Waltz will give you the opportunity to experience the rhythm of the dance.
Start with both your feet together - your own feet!

LF=Left Foot              RF=Right Foot

Leader's Foot Position
Count 1                    Count 2                            Count 3
forward LF               RF to the side                 LF closes to the RF and transfer your weight into the LF
(Head Toe)              (Toe Heel)                      (Toe Heel)

Follower's Foot Position
Count 1                    Count 2                            Count 3
step back RF           LF to the side                 RF closes to the LF and transfer your weight into the RF
(Toe Heel)              (Toe Heel)                        (Toe Heel)

You are halfway there! Now simply repeat the movements but in the reverse - the followers doing the leaders steps and vice versa. This can be counted 4 5 6.
Repeat the pattern gently turning and you will be a waltzing pro in no time!

Conscientious, Fulfilled, and Spiritual

The Renaissance was a cultural movement that profoundly affected European intellectual life. Beginning in Italy, and spreading to the rest of Europe by the 16th century, its influence affected literature, philosopy, religion, art, politics, science, and all other aspects of intellectual enquiry. Renaissance artists looked at the human aspect of life in their art. They did not reject religion but tended to look at it in it's purest form to create visions they thought depicted the ideals of religion. Painters of this time had their own style and created works based on morality, religion, and human nature. Many of the paintings depicted what they believed to be the corrupt nature of man.

People that like Renaissance paintings like things that are more challenging. They tend to have a high emotional stability. They also tend to be more concientious then average. They have a basic understanding of human nature and therefore are not easily surprised by anything that people may do. They enjoy life and enjoy living. They are very aware of their own mortality but do not dwell on the end but what they are doing in the present. They enjoy learning, but may tend to be a bit more closed minded to new ideas as they feel that the viewpoint they have has been well researched and considered. These people are more old fashioned and not quite as progressive. They enjoy the finer things in life like comfort, a good meal, and homelife. They tend to be more spiritual or religious by nature. They are open to new aesthetic experiences.

Think you're a nice, down-to-earth person? Take this quiz and find out if you are right.

1. If you have a fight with your friend,
    a) you don't apologise even if it's your fault
    b) you apologise only if it's your fault
    c) you apologise even though it isn't your fault

2. When you don't get along with someone, it is probably because...
    a) they're jealous of you
    b) you're completely opposites
    c) you're having a bad day

3. Name-dropping is...
    a) something you do to impress people
    b) something you do because you actually know these people
    c) something people do when they feel the need to prove themselves

4) You make friends with
    a) very few selected people
    b) with many people
    c) with everyone

5) Do you feel that you are better than others?
    a) Yes
    b) Not really
    c) Never

6) If someone tells you that you have an attitude problem, you
    a) don't really care
    b) try and figure out why for just a minute
    c) get upset

7) You choose your friends based on...
    a) status, looks and money
    b) common interests
    c) no criteria

8) Do you attempt to strike up a conversation with someone you've just met?
    a) No, let him/her make the effort!
    b) It depends on my mood
    c) Sure, why not?

9) If someone accuses you of being aloof, you...
    a) think it's a compliment; no harm in being choosy about who you're friendly with!
    b) analyse it for a while, and then forget about it.
    c) sit the person down to get to the bottom of that upsetting comment

10) Your friend has managed to get tickets to a sold-out concert that you want to go but they're in the nosebleed section. You...
       a) won't be caught dead sitting in that section; how embarassing!
       b) take the ticket as you really want to catch the show
       c) are ecstatic that you'll get to go to the concert!

If your answers are mostly...

A: YOU ARE A RAGING SNOB
You have a flair for all things fabulous (or so you think) and although you have heard people calling you a snob, it somehow feels more like a status symbol than an insult. Knowing what you want and not settling for less has made you a natural leader but you could stand to be a little nicer. If you're not careful, just one more nasty comment could turn your friends (and fans) against you.

B: YOU ARE A LITTLE DIVA
You have an attitude that stems from not really caring about what others think of you. You do things for yourself and no one else and if people don't like it, that's just too bad. Some people may think you're a little snobish at first, but once they get to know you, they'll appreciate your brutal honesty and devil-may-care attitude. You're definitely no pushover but neither are you walking around with a superior attitude.

C: YOU ARE MS. NICE
You are the one who people go to when they want to feel good about themselves as you always know the right things to say. You have the ability of looking at everything in a positive light and you have the gift of making people feel good about themselves. You don't care for the superficial things in life but if others do, you don't hold it against them either.

KINDERGARTEN TEACHER:
To get to the other side.

ARISTOTLE:
It is the nature of chickens to cross roads.

RONALD REAGAN:
I forget.

ARTHUR ANDERSEN CONSULTANT:
Deregulation of the chicken's side of the road was threatening its dominant market position. The chicken was faced with significant challenges to create and develop the competencies required for the newly competitive market. Andersen, in a partnering relationship with the client, helped the chicken by rethinking its physical distribution strategy and implementation processes. Using the Poultry Integration Model (PIM), Andersen helped the chicken use its skills, methodologies, knowledge, capital and experiences to align the chicken people, processes and technology in support of its overall strategy within a Program Management framework.

RICHARD M. NIXON:
The chicken did not cross the road. I repeat, the chicken did NOT cross the road.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMER:
In order for the chicken to cross the road safely they not only need one driver to access the server farm if not they will hang in the middle of the road.

JERRY SEINFELD:
Why does anyone cross a road? I mean, why doesn't anyone ever think to ask, "What the heck was this chicken doing walking around all over the place, anyway?"

BILL GATES:
I have just released the new Chicken Office 2000, which will not only cross roads, but will lay eggs, file your important documents, and balance your checkbook. Of course, it will only work with Windows 2002.

Bapa-bapa dan ibu-ibu ayam haruslah mengambil inisiatif untuk melatih ayam-ayam agar menahan najis sewaktu melintas jalan. Bak kata pepatah, Ayam di jalan di lintaskan Ayam di reban mati tak makan

COLONEL SANDERS:

BILL CLINTON :
I've had so many chicks, I can't remember...

MAHATHIR:
You know, I am tired of all this...'apa-nama' chicken bisnes....the foreign powers should stop intervening in our domestic affairs and just leave our chickens alone..... if they want to...'apa nama' cross the road, they should be allowed to cross the road... Malaysia is a democratic country,we let our chickens do whatever they want to do.... as long as they don't threaten the Malay unity and try to topple the government...and if they plan to do so...we won't hesitate to use the ISA (Internal Security Act)...

ABDULLAH BADAWI:
Ini semua adalah khabar angin sahaja...jangan percaya khabar - khabar angin ini semua...biasalah ini adalah taktik pembangkang untuk memecah belahkan perpaduan ayam-ayam... jangan percaya... jangan percaya....

SINGAPORE'S MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS SPOKESMAN:
Chickens cross roads to ensure that other chickens do not intrude on their common space, and to retain their common identity. If other chickens insist on not crossing the road and decide instead to wear turbans we will allow that because these chickens have been handed down by the British masters. In Singapore, chickens are allowed to cross roads as long as they don't theaten the Sembawang Naval Base or this popularly-elected government. We also have the ISA (Internal Security Act). In addition, the chickens are only exercising their legitimate rights, as both sides of the road are within the territorial boundaries of Chickenland as espoused under United Nations Charter. I hope the media won't be playing up old issues about chickens.
